We present a unique piece of communication technology – a telephone set consisting of an oak ringer box (so-called magneto ringer box) and a separate black desk telephone. It is likely a model from the American company Western Electric, dating from the 1930s or 1940s. The device comes from a time when the telephone was a luxury and status symbol, and its operation required manual cranking of a handle.
Why is it worth having?
- Authentic material: The box is made of solid oak, and the telephone set is made of Bakelite – materials typical of the era.
- Functionality: The characteristic crank for manually generating the ringing signal – it is not just decoration, but a working mechanism.
- Aesthetic qualities: The black of the Bakelite combined with the warm shade of oak creates a unique, industrial atmosphere.
- Collector value: Western Electric is a legend in the world of technology antiques; complete sets with a magneto ringer are becoming increasingly rare.
