We present an extraordinary military antique from Central Asia – an original Khyber Knife, also known as a Salawar Yatagan. This heavy cold weapon originates from the 19th century, from the region of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the borderlands of India and Persia. It is not only a collector's piece but also a witness to the turbulent history of trade routes and battles at the Khyber Pass.
The weapon features a single, wide blade with a massive spine that tapers to a sharp point. Its design – intended for piercing chainmail and armor – testifies to its combat purpose in close-quarters fighting. The handle is made of horn or wood, fastened with characteristic rivets, which is clearly visible in the photograph. This is an excellent example of the armorsmithing craft of 19th-century Afghan and Persian workshops.
