Girl's head carved in alabaster, originating from Italy, dated to the first half of the 20th century. The figure depicts a bust of a little girl, looking into the distance, who folds her hands in a gesture reminiscent of prayer. The girl's head is directed upwards, while her gaze seems distant, which makes the viewer realize that they are not the object of her thoughts. The scene seems frozen in time, forming a closed composition in which the observer is outside her attention. Her puffy dress sleeves, combined with tousled, flowing hair, make it clear that the girl lives in real time, yet unreachable for the viewer. The expression on her face is gentle, pensive, even dreamy, as if she is looking with hope for her prayer to be heard. Her gaze speaks to the viewer, intriguing them with its mystery. The material is alabaster, extremely soft to work with, giving the sculpture a distinct soft modeling. The figure is preserved in good condition, the only small flaw is a crack on her left shoulder.
