Large brass screws from cutters, originating from Italy, from the first half of the 20th century. Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has long been a valued material in marine and industrial environments due to its key characteristics and applications. Among the most important features of brass screws are their resistance to corrosion, which is an undoubted advantage in the case of salty seawater. They also have good thermal and electrical conductivity, as well as antibacterial properties - thanks to the use of copper in them. Another advantage is their amazing plasticity, so instead of breaking, they simply deformed. In a marine context, brass screws could be used to connect structural elements, deck equipment, interior fittings or installations, where their anti-corrosion properties were invaluable. They were especially important before the widespread introduction of high-quality stainless steel.
